Orthopedic Assessment and Treatment Strategies for Massage Therapists: A New Model for Assessment & Treatment for the Shoulder and Back

Qualification CEs: 18

Course Description

In this 3-day workshop, which will be 80% hands-on, you will learn a new model for assessment and treatment of your clients’ shoulder and back challenges.  Benny Vaughn brings 42 years of continuous clinical experience to his teaching and will share how to incorporate traditional science into non-traditional therapy strategies.  It will be an exciting and inspiring learning experience.

This course consists of lecture, demonstration and practice.  Lecture will cover fundamental principles and associated anatomy for manual testing.  The instructor will demonstrate each orthopedic assessment test and describe what the practitioner looks for to determine whether the test is positive or negative for the assigned condition.  Attendees will partner up with each other and the instructor will coach them through the tests, making corrections as necessary.  Finally, students will then perform the orthopedic assessment tests without coaching to demonstrate their understanding of proper manual procedure.

The purpose of these techniques is to address specifically the reported client symptoms, including pain, limited range of motion, hypertonicity, biomechanical and neuromuscular inhibitions.  These techniques and strategies are designed to reduce and eliminate symptoms that interfere with balanced biomechanical function.

The intent is to address multiple minor musculo-tendon conditions such as strains, sprains, tendonitis, and adhesions.
